Yam Protein Muffins

Seriously the best and easiest protein muffin recipe ever.

4oz yam (I cook them first)
1 scoop protein (I tried with Gaspari Myofusion Cinnamon Roll)
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 egg whites

Preheat oven to 375.
Mix all ingredients together. Pour into muffins tins. I made 6 mini muffins with this recipe.
Bake until a toothpick comes out clean. It took about 10 minutes for me.


Getting Back on Track

Lots of people have New Year's Resolutions that involve getting back into shape. While I do not make resolutions, I do have new goals that happen to begin in the new year. This includes competing in Figure at the National level.

Regardless if I decide to compete in the World Qualifier (or, the Natural Nationals) in April, my prep will have started on Jan 1, 2013. Due to the high level of Nationals in August, Coach Rachel thinks it would be best that I am ready almost a month out.

I only started body building last year. In fact, until January of last year, I was not really sold on actually competing. I was simply following my sister's guidelines rather mindlessly.

I've been doing morning cardio, afternoon weights during my off-season, but ever since I met my boyfriend, I've also had extra crazy eating binges.. Our favourite thing to do.. is eat.

Getting Back on Track

Getting back on track has been really difficult for me. My diet is fairly strict now, and my carb intake has been greatly reduced. Treat cravings skyrocketed for me, and I've been extra grumpy and tired with my measly 2oz of yam that makes up my daily carb intake. (Okay, I'm exaggerating, I have some fruits too.)

When I have a stricter diet in place, I like to be very strict. I have one cheat meal a week, but I'd almost rather skip it. Otherwise, I just don't feel like I'm prepping. But, as my boyfriend just moved to Vancouver and I've only been here for a few months, making friends and going out (and eating!) are options that we don't always want to say no to.

Then.. I got sick. Coach Rachel told me to take the rest of the week off, and my boyfriend insisted I relax. Not working out for a day relaxes me.. two days make me feel like a bum.


How do I get back on track?

I trust my trainer, follow her guidelines the best I can, and check myself out in the mirror a lot. It helps to have a loving boyfriend telling me that I'm getting leaner everyday. I just take it one day at a time.. unless we're talking meal prep. That requires 5 days prep at once! 😉
